When we first started our growth-stage media funding business in 2000, we partnered with Newtek Business Solutions. Over the years, we added new investors and eventually chose to part ways with Newtek, which also meant we needed to give them their name back. The new name of the business became Charis Media Capital.
“Charis” (pronounced “Kar is”) is Greek for the word “grace.” Grace’s meaning is embodied in the concept of being granted kindness or favor, perhaps not commensurate with what you deserve. As a Christian, it has a special meaning to me. What I deserve as a sinner is not what I will receive in judgment thanks to the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross and through His resurrection. That’s who I am, and that’s how we operate as a media funding business.
In over 20 years of business, we have looked to embody this grace/kindness in our dealings with our clients. We have worked on projects that have been incredibly successful and also had a few unmitigated disasters. Still, the one constant has always been that we have treated each of our clients with respect and with a genuine desire to see them succeed regardless of their size. In return, we have built a reputation as an honest, trustworthy, and respectable growth-stage media funding business in the direct response, direct-to-consumer (DTC) industry.
